Standing in the Spiritual Heart


An Interview with Laurie Conrad by Diana Souza. Ithaca, New York.

Q Laurie, the first question I would ask - I would like to know what you got by the phrases "in my heart" and "I looked inside and found him in the spiritual heart." She wrote: "I was in my heart. Q The average reader will wonder how your heart was in the room are all around you?

A well, I think, I wonder that myself. It is part of the great mystery of life. I had a similar experience with the music, when suddenly I remain in my heart was in this mystical heart and the comments on my pieces will be all around me. So I suspect that I have a similar place when I go on Chopin interpretation, or writing my music. I do not know whether we can really explain these things. When you meditate, you meditate, I think it is easier to understand. In fact, it could be very difficult to explain or describe, for people who do not meditate.

The spiritual heart is generally assumed to lie in the seat of the soul. In my experience, it is roughly where the physical heart is, my body and in the middle. The soul itself is about the limits and the limits of our physical body, we can not even begin to imagine the size of the soul. So my personal self, with my individual little sense - sitting in the room with the great sage Paul Brunton. He was at the end of his life on earth, and he was fully illuminated. A Christian would probably say that he had attained sainthood. In the Indian tradition, they would say that he fully illuminated. Had in his presence, I have this great mystical experience that I learned the contents of my heart for me in the room - as if I were in a very deep, advanced meditation or contemplation.

I've only meditated, I think, for a few months ago, when I met him. So it was a very happy and memorable experience.

The human body that are in, compared with the soul - and the physical brain as compared to itself consciousness - are minuscule in comparison. So I would allow my heart around me experience, filled the whole room to teach me this. I could have given the experience so that I could see and understand that we all are so much bigger than we believe ourselves to be that the soul is immense. There are other meanings of this event as well, meaning that we have not time for the interview. It was a mystical experience. It is not something that we humans can easily find words for.

Q You also said that you first met the Dalai Lama is in your dreams before you even knew who he was. Later met him in person. Tell us your impressions of the Dalai Lama. Anecdotes ...

A Our Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet. Well, he is an extraordinary man. I saw him and found him in a group many times. One of the first things that struck me is his incredible sense of humor - and his great joy. The next thing that struck me was his extraordinary seriousness and gravity, when he talks about prayer. He and his monks are constantly praying for the world. He is a very humble and holy man. And I love the juxtaposition of these two attributes of his personality, humor and holiness. He is regarded as the embodiment of compassion, and everything he says and does, revolves around the higher compassion.

When he talks about the higher compassion, it is always associated with wisdom - the higher wisdom, which is about the wisdom of Catholics and other religions: that we are not the body that the physical world does not Ultimate Reality. This higher compassion is not the usual, sentimental emotion that most people call compassion, Paul Brunton would that emotions or sentimentality to call the empathy, the lower octave of true compassion. The Dalai Lama would say that true compassion, even this higher wisdom. Through the application of wisdom, we should have compassion for all sentient beings, every creature on earth - just because they are suffering in the body, and therefore. This is the true mercy. This sympathy would also agree that you stop when people behave badly because of their bad behavior, they harm themselves and others. So, in this definition of compassion, wisdom is in the background in a loving, detached manner. The Witness Location, let us say, by Paul Brunton, if we are able to see clearly what is really best for all of their ability. That is true compassion.

Broadly speaking, we human beings, the world mainly by our personal thoughts and feelings are lower. The great teachers, such as the Dalai Lama and the sages, saints - try them all, we get a higher position to get the higher octave of all personal emotions. Brunton spoke about this at length in his notes, and the Dalai Lama has written many volumes of books.

What would anecdotes, I do not even know where to begin. I remember especially his laugh, his joy. First, the holiness that he brings. The clarity of mind. The first time I was in the same room with him, I heard clairaudiently very softly throughout the room, vibrating the whole room was - perhaps the energy of his nature or his mantra, his inner prayer. I had not heard that phenomenon before that date still there, even while in his presence.

QI remember a story that you told the Dalai Lama is and the cleaning of the room where he wants to talk with a storm?

A Yes, that's in Boston was when he at Harvard University. A friend and I stayed at the ashram Mataji for a few days. I think, Mataji took over for Ramakrishna. She had an ashram in the vicinity of Boston, and we had decided to stay there rather than in a hotel in Boston. We had come to hear the Dalai Lama as he at Harvard University.

I do not know what year this was, but it was many years ago. It was one of the first visits of the Dalai Lama to this country. Mataji sent three of us to arrange a meeting between her and the Dalai Lama just before the lecture. She had met him before. So they sent us further on its environment to talk and arrange it. I always thought this was an unusual task list of a kind - Mataji has been fully elucidated, it is not necessary to arrange three young people looking at these meetings with the Dalai Lama. She and the Dalai Lama were quite able to straighten it all through non-verbal communication, spiritual. As it turned out, the young woman is driving us there in a dream, Paul Brunton met in her childhood - as I visited with the Dalai Lama, first in dreams as an adult. In these dreams, Brunton asked her. She found out who it years later, when she saw his photograph in a book. That was probably why Mataji sent us, together, so that my friend and I would take this young woman and to hear their story. I would also like to experience the storm, a day to tell the story in this interview. Mataji, as Paul Brunton was quite capable of seeing into the future.

In any case, the three of us all got into a small car, an old, very down car that we were hoping to beat us there. And we have to get there early enough to arrange a meeting between the extraordinary Mataji and the holy Dalai Lama.

After we had finished speaking with his people, they readily agreed that the meeting, and we were very glad and happy that our mission has been accomplished so easily. I decided to go outside to wait by myself for about Mataji. It was a beautiful, quiet and early autumn day. The sun was shining and I had been on the beautiful campus of Harvard, I was never there. Students sat under the trees, studying or taking a walk or from their classes on the roads. I left the lecture hall door a little happy, and stood there, taking in the beauty of the scene. Suddenly a huge storm came up, an intense and surprising, shocking wind. Student papers were flying everywhere, the trees were waving branches throughout almost bending. I tried to take shelter against a large tree near the door, wind and flying leaves, the students are now scampering on the trails, leaned against the storm, trying to get their papers scattered. It was quite something. It felt like I accidentally stepped into a vacuum cleaner or a washing machine.

Probably lasted about two to three minutes. Then the storm stopped as quickly as they had arisen. I said to myself: 'My God, what was that? "

Then I laughed. I realized that it was probably the Dalai Lama, the cleaning of the grounds of Harvard, before he arrived. And this is still my view. He is a very powerful being, the Dalai Lama. He has tremendous power. But in view of his teachings, probably his greatest message to the world is kind, be kind to others. And when it appears the message of Our Lady, the Madonna to follow the world - she was in Medjugorje, Yugoslavia, for nearly twenty years to six visionaries - It also says to keep a kind, simple life. She says that we should try to pattern our lives after St. Therese of Lisieux. And Saint Therese of Lisieux never left her convent? She had the easiest life. They had at most a small table in her convent cell and a bed. Maybe a chair. At one point they had a vase in her room, but she thought she could also always associated with, so she asked to remove it. They basically made their daily work and tasks in the monastery and was friendly to the other nuns. And yet she was one of the largest Catholic saints. In Medjugorje, Our Lady said, basically: You choose your path and lead a kind of simple life.

The Dalai Lama is now a star, he is a very famous man, he has written books and lectures in many countries. He is known worldwide. And he is still one of the most humble and simple of men. They say that he has a pair of shoes and two of his brown coat. He remains untouched and unspoiled by the world. He considers himself a monk, but he is both the spiritual and temporal leader of his country. But he lives like a simple monk. So in that sense alone, I think he is an incredible and holy man, and a role model for humanity.

Our interview was not long enough to really discuss the Dalai Lama. When I saw him the first time in person, I inwardly told the Mother that I feel as if I had met her son. I felt as if I had seen Christ on earth, that I had listened to him speak.

Q modern psychiatric science probably not too kind in their assessment of the mystical states and the saints and people who experience them. Many modern psychiatrists might even tell you what to see you as an "inner vision" and "movies in my head," as delusional. Find out how these mystical, inner visions, and films are distinguished by a vivid imagination?

A This is a very clever question. And I think in my case, probably the greatest "proof" that an experience is not just fantasy or illusion, if I saw a place internally, and then I saw later on that exact spot in a book or a magazine or in waking consciousness. Or if I had a vision of the future will happen as I had seen unfold, a few days or weeks later that there's always the luck. When I saw a clairvoyant a lost animal at a certain point, the animal was found there. When I clairaudiently Our Lady's voice heard speaking to me, I heard my little dog is also Guinivere - she was still standing on the street corner, looking for the person behind the voice, though I had walked half a block. Most of my experience has been validated here on the Earth plane. So when I do an inner vision of someone or something to say or to know that they were in trouble - I would later learn that yes, in fact, that was exactly happened when I saw it. I was actually very happy that way. Personally, I had a lot of validation. Otherwise I probably would have asked me whether my experiences were only fantasy or hallucination.

This is an interesting and important topic. If you are highly mystical experiences, you will be thrown into another, higher consciousness. You are probably more sensitive than most people. And when people say that you are crazy and they say time and again that you are crazy, you can immediately begin to believe that you are. But there are also people who are delusional. A simple way to determine the truth of her clairvoyance is to see whether the predictions come true. The saints are never wrong.

In the Catholic Church, visions and clairvoyance not make you a saint. And the Church is very careful about the testing and evaluation of such skills. First, they look at the general behavior, virtue and reason of man. Many visions can not be verified. Some of the saints have seen their guardian angel. How can this be verified? Is this a rational person the rest of the time? They seem to have a hysterical nature? What they see or predict what proved wrong later? The Catholic Church finds that person carefully analyzed and their whole life on earth, which I consider very wise.

St. Teresa of Avila, in her books, her autobiography and in the Interior Castle, speaks of these things. She says that she is usually not an imaginative person. Therefore, it seems unlikely that their vision would be produced by her own mind, through their imagination. But she also says that if we have visions of any kind, we should categorically discount them just to be on the safe side, in case it is the imagination or Old Nick their production. She also says that if there is a real experience, you just know it. Some of this knowledge is something intangible, which are not really articulated.

Some of it is the staying power of the mystical experience. It will stay with you for the rest of your life, word for word, picture for picture. That has always amazed me. But those who have had mystical experiences, agree that this is true.

Just as with the birth of Christ, when the angel appeared to the shepherds, most of the children, the church has a wife, Madonna, appeared in the course of history are shepherds. As at Medjugorje, in these current visions of Our Lady of the earth. (She says she will be her last appearances on earth.) The children were in Medjugorje on his way to care for the sheep, where the Virgin first appeared to them. Were in Fatima, the children tended the sheep, when the first angel came to them. And of course, is Christ as the shepherd, and we are his flock. Throughout history it has, especially for children appeared shepherds and shepherdesses. In one case, the children were very uneducated, they could probably read or write. They said a local, rural dialect, and Our Lady gave them a very long, complicated message nice and explained by saying that they do not even know. The children then repeated it verbatim, without a syllable, even years later. This again shows the power of true mystical experiences that they are permanently imprinted in our consciousness. This is quite different from our ordinary experience.

Q How can the inner end of the fall of a sparrow? You had an accident that almost ended her life. It has sometimes you disabled. And it even deleted a while your psychic abilities. But you say you do not believe in an accident. In view of the destruction and disability brought into your life if the accident was staged divine, then what possible purpose could it have served to improve your life and consciousness?

A That is a far different question, and answer not so simple.

Q The case of a sparrow?

A: Yes. This was is a quote from Christ himself. He said to his disciples, that is numbered every hair on our head and there is providence in the fall of a sparrow. Now the scientists are unanimous, they call it the DNA, the small table in the strands of our lives.

In any case, I think my car accident was divinely orchestrated. If it's intention was negative, which is also possible, certainly God would permit it. And in my faith context, if he allowed it would be allowed for the purification of the soul - and / or for the souls of others, or in the interest of the world. Our life on earth, in my mind, is just a constant depth.

A continual increase of being and understanding. Sure, I also hope that there is a deepening of holiness, and there are certain experiences that we are there, deepen wisdom and strength to help.

It has more than fifteen years since the accident, and I certainly have enough time to think about why it would have allowed it to happen. Personally I would prefer that I not go to either the teachings or that I can learn a different way. But I'm certainly not on the larger vision of question that have God and the soul. Luckily, the little person was the person in the body, Laurie Conrad jurisdiction in this case, the day of the accident. Or any day. God and the soul are responsible. We can make poverty in our own opinion in our own life on the planet can be found at: things that we wanted so very badly when we were young, now seem so undesirable or even harmful. Has that ever happened to you? Well, I look down only to the inside and say, "Thank God that you do not what you wanted." For either it was not good for me or did something much better. So, even within the time frame of our earthly existence, we begin to have an overview of the events and the value of things, even when they happen. As we could second guess the wisdom of the soul and God? You can not. When I am inside with total honesty - whatever the best way to reflect on events - as hard as it was for me and all around me, some of the biggest lessons of my spiritual life probably arose as a result of this accident.

Well, I could say I believe that when I hit my back all the months and years, real estate, it is the first time that I felt was the union with the Higher Love, love from the universe. That the universe, the sum of the hearts of all creatures that populate the universe, really this extraordinary love for everyone and keep all of us. And yes, of course, it is the higher love, divine love of God is expressed through all the souls of all creatures - but it is not combined, all other souls and the universe itself I was shown this in a vision of nature, and I see nor, as it hung in my mind's eye, like a small film. A cosmic love. It is the divine love of God, but then there is also a cosmic or universal love that I felt pouring into me and about me. It was as if every creature on earth did me well, sent me the love and healing. And that, I think, in my vocabulary would be a high level of mystical experience. To this universal feeling of love of all creatures. And it is for us all, every moment of every day. We are just not conscious of being conscious. And I was aware, because I was knocked flat on his back for so long with a certain type of injury. I have the feeling that someone who is seriously injured or seriously ill is because of the opportunity.

I remember long ago, reports and stories that said, people with polio in iron lungs, sometimes an incredible peace. I think it is similar to what I have experienced. Despite the terrible difficulties and the horror I felt the deepest peace, which I never in my life. Granted, I knew how to meditate, I had been meditating for many years.

And I thought, as I most of all it was half conscious and feeling half alive. But I think that even if I did not know how to meditate, then I would have in this beautiful inner city was triggered anyway. And it was an indescribable peace and love in the next, even at the same time that the vehicle was wired in the body dysfunctional and wrong. I had pretty severe head injuries. I could not understand what people said to me, or actually almost a year to speak. I have amnesia. As you know, I can still go into a dazed state, if I am overloaded with work or ideas, as I said in the past week.

At the time of the accident, the body, the vehicle was completely dysfunctional - but this other place was so big and so deep, so full of love. And I do not know if I've ever experienced, without the accident.

I think another valuable lesson or virtue I had learned to my accident, the difference between humiliation and humility. In the monastery they ask poverty, chastity and obedience, who say another way, is humility. When I was injured the first, it was very humiliating. Not long, because the feeling was too heavy to bear for me. I had an intelligent, capable, respected and independent person to have a great career - and it all changed in an instant. Suddenly I could not do anything, not for myself or others. I could not dress or feed myself. I could not sit. Doctors were talking about me as if I had not been there. I could not really speak or understand what people said. I could not even form words internally, that is, I could not even pray. I've forgotten most of my personal history, and when I tried, I'm going to fall. Six years later I was still on the road to primary school children with small colorful backpacks slung on his back, because I did not know where the cars were. I could not play concerts for seven years.

And so I had to quickly learn how to internally at a different place, a place I would call humility, humility. And what I mean by that humble before God - humiliation, because only comes when we are in comparison to other people. We compare ourselves to others can be neurotic, and it can be dangerous. Humiliation is more than counterproductive, it is ruinous.

But if you're really shy, you are just kneeling before God. And if I just knelt humbly before God inwardly and said to me: "Well, I am terribly hurt and God wants that from me," came the power of God through me was the power of the universe through me - and I suddenly felt are stronger and quieter than I had ever felt.

With regard to the healing of others, after the accident, now I have not yet even aware of requests for healing in order to be completely healed for people. Before the accident I was often very hard, and pray too miraculous cures available for other work. I think the new automatic cure for others started, because this higher, divine love, healing energy - whatever you want to call it --

Q presence.

A The Divine Presence now came through me. I was just naturally brilliant, because I was so filled with him.

Thus, there were tangible results. I was now an incredibly deep feeling of peace and love and power - and others were spontaneously and miraculously, without my even consciously work to heal. This is still true.

But is this difference between humiliation and humility, I think, very important for everyone. And we must learn, I think if we really want to stand before God. Or we could say, to stand in your higher self, the soul, in a permanent way possible. Not only the mystical look here and there, that you may need to be passed in the meditation.
